Amharic is a language of Ethiopia. Roughly 33% of the population there speak it as a first language.

Amharic is a Semitic language, spoken by roughly 22 million people, the majority of whom live in Ethiopia, where it is an official language. Amharic-speaking communities have settled in the United States, Israel (where they are known as 'Beta Israel'), Canada, the United Kingdom, Egypt and Sweden.
